Right O. So I was wondering, is there any reason Sound Forge would make a lap top freeze? It acts like it takes too much um, CPU usage I guess, to work. I heard sound Forge is crap with lap tops, but I got it to work once. so... any thoughts or suggestions?
Sound forge will work fine with a laptop, providing that you've got the processor speed and ram. What version of sound forge are you using and what screen reader and second sound card are you using? I can probably help you sort this.
well you see Cam, here's the thing, It's version six... I think, I use jaws, and sigma tel audio? I know that sucks lol. but I did get it to work, and it's not the sound card... maybe the processor? But it did work that one time, and i have faith. lol. Yay for us technalogical retards!
I tend to use goldwave but am also moving towords using soundforge.
what i would suggest for you to do (cam can do this with you if his ideas don't work) is to try and kill all aplications that you do not use, for example, windows messenger, splserve and some other ones.
a great trick that i do to computers that are running with 256 mb ram and that have shared graphics is to increase the amount of ram that the graphics takes from say... 16 mb to 64 mb. You might be thinking that this won't make a difference coz you don't use graphics, but it does, and its noticeable.
Sorry i couldn't have been more of a help, BEN.
sound forge seven and eight are much more stable and are less CPU intensive. I've had no issues since moving up to SF version seven. What happens when you load a wave file and try to do a simple edit? You really should be using a USB or firewire audio interface to handle everything but your screen reader and system sounds. If you had an external interface and used asio drivers, that would solve a lot of reliability issues. You're asking for trouble if you want to do recording and editing etc and run speech all through your on board soundcard, which is passable at best.
alright. thanks. ya know, maybe sound forge lol, isn't the best thing for someone with my urm, knack for technology. any easier sound recorders? I have cool edit pro, and unless I can get my sound quality better, I hate it...
well your sound quality is not really due to the application you use, but rather the quality of your audio interface and your mic/line pre amp and AD and DA converters.
